Medical Update

The history of the Medical Update began around 20 years ago, driven by the shared vision of a group of physicians from Santa Maria Hospital and several directors of Health Centers within its area of influence: to create a solid and continuous medical education program. This led to the creation of the Continuing Medical Education Program of Health Unit A, hosted by the Portuguese Society of Cardiology at its “House of the Heart” in Lisbon.

However, the auditorium soon proved too small. Two years later, the meetings moved to the Sete Rios Health Center, where growth continued—fueled by the enthusiasm of physicians from other Health Centers who joined the initiative.It was in this context that a decisive proposal emerged. Dr. Fernando Silva, then Director of the Loures Health Center, issued the challenge of organizing a national meeting. This marked the birth, in 2008, of the first edition of the Medical Update, held in Vilamoura.

With more than 2,500 attendees—most of them General and Family Medicine (GFM) physicians—and a distinctive program in which clinical cases are discussed interactively among participants, the Medical Update has become one of the most prominent medical congresses at the national level.

Atral and Barral were present with a highly motivated and enthusiastic team, communicating the key products currently highlighted in medical visits within General and Family Medicine: CARTILON, ARCALION, BINOSTO, PRAVID, and BILOBAN.
